First a little background about Northampton. Whilst Northampton can trace its history as far back as 4000 BC, far more recently Northampton has been known as the centre of the UK Shoe manufacturing industry. Sadly only small parts of the industry have survived as those of you who have seen the film Kinky Boots will know and now most of the shoes, once produced in Northampton are now made overseas.

As the third largest town in England, without city status and with a position it held in the 12th Century, and a growing population, Northampton boasts a host of small businesses providing a wealth of jobs for its inhabitants, which now include a very welcome Polish contingent. As an indication of growth, Northampton’s population has grown by over a third since 19881, when it reached 150,000 to today’s figure of over 200,000.
