CG Flooring Systems Ltd successfully refurbished 475m sqof floor space for the Masons Road site of Tappex Thread Inserts, in Stratford-upon-Avon, installing a chemical resistant anti-slip coating to improve the operational and aesthetic requirements of the floor. Tappex provides the design, manufacture and worldwide distribution of metal threaded inserts for plastics, alloys and wood. The existing anti-slip coating was de-bonding and the brief was to install a new system similar to that in other areas of the factory. A “sandwich” system using sand blinding of aggregate between two coats of industrial strength coating was chosen in two colours. The project was to be completed during a week long shutdown period of production. The key to the success of the installation and the future performance of the floor was ensuring that correct and detailed preparation took place. A lot of cutting oils are used in the production process at the factory and oil had penetrated the substrate. Therefore, shot-blasting and burning followed closely by encapsulating the substrate with an epoxy primer completed the initial stages. This ensured full de-contamination of the substrate and the floor was then ready to receive the new industrial flooring system. The project raised a number of challenges that were effectively overcome and the project was completed from initial enquiry, site visit to installation in less than two weeks.
